If you are of the female species, you understand the rollercoaster ride of emotions. Well, yesterday I went FLYING down the hill. Let me explain to you the ride UP the hill. Grab a Snicker's bar, you might be here a while.
This previous week I spent baby-sitting two 6 year old twins. I had a BLAST! They were so much fun, and so easy to take care of, not to mention the nice facilities we were able to stay in. But, WOW, it takes a LOT of energy to run a household. Everyday waking up and RUSHING them off to school, hurrying to clean what I can (they are only in Kindergarten so they have half days). Playing, playing, tidying, feeding time, playing again, running an errand, making dinner, feeding time, changing diapers, cleaning dinner, jumping on trampoline, feeding time, bath time, and finally, the girl's bed time. But it's not bedtime for me yet. Now is the time for me to catch up on what I didn't get done during the day! So, I rush to do dishes, make Josh's lunch, clean kitchen, put away toys, lay the baby down, and then I can go to bed. At that point, Josh is already in bed, so I hurry to get ready for bed. At this point it's probably about 11 or 11:30. Some times later. Ahh, sleep. But, some little body in another room decides he is hungry around 3 am and starts crying. So, we have another feeding time. The best part of those middle of the night feedings is that Conrad will go right back down to sleep. Ahh, sleep again. For a couple of hours, atleast. Unfortunately, some little body in another room decides they are hungry again and starts crying. We have feeding time again, and go back down to sleep, but then in another hour or two, it is time to get up and get ready and do it ALL over again! Yipee.
To summarize that past novel, I didn't get much sleep last week.
Now, the next section of climbing up the hill. Fortunately for you, it's not as big as the last climb. Sunday morning comes around and we come back to our nice cozy home after sleeping on the hard ground the previous night (long story, sorry, but isn't this one long enough?). We rush to get ready for church. I am at this point, living on low-quality, highly interrupted sleep and, of course I had to get charged with the monthly bill the previous day. So, I am already teetering on the edge of the emotional rollercoaster.
As we are getting ready I do my normal routine and change Conrad's diaper. Out of nowhere I see these huge zit-like bumps all over his back. I realize, oh, I haven't given him a bath for about 4 days! That was enough to make me feel like a negligent mother. But, when you are busy with 2 girls and a household to keep clean, and the baby is not crying even though he may be dirty, you don't even think to give him a bath. I teetered over the edge. Fortunately, I just stayed there and hung on. I knew I was going to fly down any moment, though. (FYI, he has sensitive skin, so I hope these bumps are nothing serious).
We go to church. I clung to my post on the rollercoaster, hoping not to let the floodgates open. I made it through the first block of church. But, then all of a sudden a woman I hold dear to my heart approaches me and says that she has been praying for me. WHOOOOOOSH! Down the hill I fly. There's no stopping. Not even a trip to a bathroom to gain composure. All I can do is HOLD on. And it is a very long hill down. So, all day yesterday I bawled. We even had a family party my husband was very excited to go to. I felt horrible, but I knew I couldn't go to it and keep my composure. So, after a few words with one another, (that I regretted saying later) we resolved that he would take the baby and I would stay home and take a nap. So, once he left I fell asleep. All of a sudden, he was back home. I was startled, why was he back home so soon? But, I looked at the clock and realized it had been 2 1/2 hours. And, I amazingly felt much better. I was all of a sudden a much better wife and mother.
So, the moral of the story is, um, get your sleep. At least, let me get my sleep.
